Celebrating International Women’s Day, Bhagwan Mahavir Medica organised a Cervical Cancer Screening Awareness Programme on 11th March 2016 . Women from different walks of life participated participated in the interactive discussion.
The programme started with an inaugural address given by Dr. Sanjay Kumar, Medical Director & Director, Institute of Neuro Sciences. And was followed by a presentation by Dr. Shabdika Lal, Consultant, Obs & Gynae on Cervical cancer, its causes and preventive methods. She stressed on the fact that it is the only cancer that is preventable and emphasised on the necessity of pap Smear test every 3 years to detect abnormalities and prevent cancer.
This was followed by a lively discussion between the panel members, comprising eminent ladies from various professions who spoke about the general lack of awareness on the subject, and the necessity to reach the message of the importance of cervical screening to the masses.
The panelists for the evening were: Ms. Poonam Pandey, President, IPSOWA, Ms. Suman Gupta, IG (Prisons), Ms. Jhooma Sarkar, Founder, DWA, Ms. Anshu Priya, Programming Head (Radio Dhoom), Dr. Sunita Jha, Consultant, Obs & Gynae, BMMSH and Ms. Vrinda Saraogi, Jain Samaj. Dr. Sweta Lal, Consultant, Obs & Gynae, BMMSH presided over the discussion as the moderator.
A 50% discount on the cervical cancer vaccines was offered by the Jain Samaj.
