Our Highlights at BMMSH:

Coronary Heart Disease – It is caused by the accumulation of plaque within the walls of the arteries that supply the myocardium. Angina pectoris/chest pain is a symptom of coronary heart disease. Rheumatic Heart Disease – It is a complication of rheumatic fever, which is more common in people in the age group of 5-15. The symptoms develop over a period of time and can progress to serious heart damage that can kill or cripple adolescents and young adults Heart Muscle Disease –referred to as Cardio Myopathy, it is caused when damaged heart muscles cause enlargement of heart. The heart’s ability to pump blood decreases causing backflow into the lungs and other parts of the body. Cardio Myopathy may be of three types:
  • Hypertrophic Cardio Myopathy
  • Dilated Cardio Myopathy
  • Restrictive Cardio Myopathy
Hypertensive Heart Disease – Prolonged high blood pressure can affect the heart muscles and blood vessels leading to Coronary Heart Disease or Left Ventricular Hypertrophy (LVH) (heart enlargement) and failure in the long run or blockage of the coronary blood vessels resulting in a heart attack. Pericardial Diseases – Caused by inflammation in the pericardium (tissues that surround the heart), due to infections, heart attack/surgery, trauma, or autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis. Symptoms may include sharp pain in the chest, low grade fever and increased heart rate. Some common pericardial diseases are:
  • Pericardial Effusion
  • Constructive Pericarditis
