On World Leprosy Day, BMMSH, came up with an initiative to educate and create awareness among people about what Leprosy is, its symptoms and its cure. Dr. Kumar Prateek, Associate Consultant, Dermatology department said that Leprosy is an infectious disease that causes severe, disfiguring skin sores and nerve damage in the arms, legs, and skin areas around the body. The disease has been around since ancient times, often surrounded by terrifying, negative stigmas and leprosy patients being shunned as outcasts. Today, with progress in science and healthcare, Leprosy is not a curse anymore. It’s just a skin disease which can be cured in due course of time with proper treatment and medicine.
