World Heart Day is celebrated on September 29 every year to inform people about cardiovascular diseases, which are the biggest cause of death. The day promotes preventative measures to reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases. World Heart Day encourages us all to reduce our cardiovascular risk, and promotes a heart-healthy planet for those around us.
BMMSH, Ranchi celebrated World Heart Day by organizing a free heart check up camp for 2 days (29th & 30th September) in which various tests like lipid profile, ECG, Echo – screening was done. The Day was celebrated in two parts. In the morning there was an interactive session conducted in the lobby where the Cardiac team headed by Dr. Deepak Gupta, Director, Medica Institute of Cardiac Sciences, was present and gave brief information on various heart problems and tips on healthy heart.
We got an overwhelming response from the audience. Also there was a poster and slogan competition organized wherein all hospital staff participated. Physiotherapy Team won the 1st prize for Poster Competition and Dr. Anand Srivastav won the first prize for slogan competition.
During the second half, The Heart Failure Clinic was launched in the conference Room .A centre of excellence for clinical management of heart failure was inaugurated by Vice Chancellor, Ranchi University, and Dr. Ramesh Pandey. Dr Deepak Gupta, Director, Medica Institute of Cardiac Sciences , BMMSH Ranchi , said the clinic would offer an effective alternative to the current cycle of acute care management from complete patient evaluations, education and regular monitoring to immediate response to patients’ needs.
The clinic is being set up in the wake of a global burden of diseases due to heart failure and other cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). These are increasing due to a sharp rise in health transition experienced by the developing countries.
Dr. Sanjay Kumar, Medical Director & Director, Medica Institute of Neuro Sciences spoke about the importance of this day and efforts which can be taken to incorporate better techniques in this field. Dr. A.K.Baidya, Director, Medica Institute of Kidney Diseases too emphasized the role of cardiac care and how Nephro patients are vulnerable to cardiac arrest and general tips on how to cope up with such cases.
